How we check firms

198 firms across 80 towns. Every listing shows what was checked and whether it was verified. Here is exactly what that means.

The three checks

  1. Real and trading. An automated check visits the firm's website every week and records whether it responded and what its title says. Where we can find a Companies House number or a trade-body entry, it is shown. A firm whose site stops responding is taken off the town pages until it comes back.
  2. Treats bed bugs in that town. The same check reads the firm's own pages for a bed bug service and for the towns it names. A firm shows as "confirmed" only when its own site describes a bed bug service. Firms found through bed bug searches whose site we have not verified are marked as such; firms that rank for pest control but whose site shows no bed bug page are listed separately under "other pest control firms".
  3. Membership on the register. BPCA and NPTA membership is marked "confirmed" only when the body's own public register lists the firm. Until then a membership the firm states is shown as stated.

What we do not verify

Insurance, heat equipment, years trading, guarantees and prices come from the firm's own site and are shown as stated. We have not inspected any firm's work, and we publish no reviews.

How firms are ordered

In each town: sponsored firms, marked as such, then firms with a confirmed bed bug service, then firms based in the town, then by name. Sponsorship buys position; it never changes what the checks say.

How listings are compiled

Firms are found from the BPCA and NPTA public lists, search results for bed bug treatment and pest control in each town, and the firms' own websites. A listing holds the firm's name, website, the towns it says it covers, its methods and any published prices. We never list a firm from a phone number alone, and we never invent one.

Corrections and removal

A firm can claim its listing to correct it, or ask to be removed. Removals are done within seven days. If you are a customer and something on a listing looks wrong, email hello@bedbugtreatmentdirectory.co.uk.
